Not much to say, really?

# Some background…

Short of it being a personal project I have been attempting to bring back from the dead from about ~20 years ago? I don't know…

Let's just say that there have been several false starts over the years trying to pick up wherever the hell I left off with it.

The only difference between then and now is that this iteration utilises some modern tricks to reduce the level of tedium when it comes to writing and publishing pages, and it is largely autogenerated from a set of prefabricated base templates and plain text files, meaning I can take more or less of a "hands-off" approach.

What pained me the most in getting this all up and running was the text processing and the use of regular expressions to ensure that all pages displayed with consistent formatting both visually, and internally; ie. the HTML source code.

I do not really have the time to be handcrafting HTML pages to from inception to completion, but I basically needed a place; somewhere where I could put up my side projects up for public showcasing as well the ability to shitpost and share knowledge in between, all with minimal fuss and without having to be at the mercy of big tech platforms, which given the current state of the global internet is bad for obvious reasons. (Scraping and AI chief among them).

Rest assured that in no way, shape, or form have I "vibe coded" or relied upon an Artifical General Intelligence or Large Language Models to outright write or help me write the code for this website for me.

The underlying server-side application has been developed internally on a home computer over the years independently of any professional or academic institutes as well as any algorithms, as such I require no GitHub, StackOverflow, or LinkedIn accounts nor do I require any fancy glossy certificates to say that I am qualified.

What I can tell you is that this was built with PHP – A "jack-of-all-trades" scripting language if ever there was one, but is never really good at one specific thing.

My site implements a cleanroom custom tooled reimplemenation of Markdown (without even looking at Markdown's source code) which includes support for things like converting shorthand references to subreddits in to fully functioning URLs. It auto converts sequences of specific characters in to single character substitutes.

It even displays hexidecimal colour codes as swatches such as this:-

This way what is displayed in the web browser follows closely what is displayed in my text editor regarding colour information.

Make no mistake, I did not create this website in order to impress a recruiting manager or a HR interviewer, or use it as a CV peice, or submit it as evidence for a job application. This is not the intention. This is purely for my own enjoyment and experimentation.

To any headhunter or talent poacher reading this; No, my skills are not for sale. No amount of money is going to sway me in to changing careers, and you're all equally guilty of lowballing potential recruits, followed by laying them off and announcing record figures in your subsequent quarterly or annual financials.

With that tangent out of the way, eventually this site will also take the role serving as a hub for all my social media handles, and will act an as authorative source for them. It's also intended to fill the vacuum that has left behind by leaving services such as the likes of Facebook, MySpace, etc.

I may release the source code of the system that generates my webpages in the future but I have yet to decide if it's worth it.

What is preventing me from doing so currently is that there are things about my website's system which still aren't perfect and I am working on ironing out the kinks as and when I can, but as I already work full-time 40 hours a week doing hard graft in the form of physical manual labour, the time that I do get to spend on it is a precious commodity indeed.

This site has primarily been designed for desktop first experience, a mobile compatible version will come later… Mobiles suck and I'd rather you view it on desktop tbh.

# About me

Non-binary Xennial, early 40s, who is quite honestly both fed up and tired of trying to fit in with the arbitrary societal standards set by neurotypicals, you don't need to know anything else.

In real life I am very much a private person at heart, though of course I realise that putting all this out on the public internet might not be my best interest, but then again I have least made an effort to try and detatch anything about it from my real life identitiy as much as possible.

On the internet, I am both an avid user of and a firm supporter of the Indie Web and Federated Social Media (eg. ActivityPub/Fediverse) in general.

Here is a brief history of the development of this site and my development as a person over the last 15-20 years:

# Writing style

The site is predominately written from a British point of view.

As such, you can expect that Colour, Humour, etc. will be spelled with a U as one might imagine. In addition to this, words that contain Z's in leiu of S's will be spelled accordingly.

Expect elevated levels of dry humour, wit, sarcasm, and puns, including references to popular British media such as Top Gear, Monty Python, among others…

This will also include jeers, jabs, and jibes at notable figures, prominent orgnisations, and social cliques aplenty.

Be warned that nothing is safe!

I use the Oxford comma and semicolons liberally, an online thesaurus is probably recommended, and 🌍 Tone Tags will be inserted where necessary.

Expect typos that don't get corrected right away. I often type faster than I can think.

Content Warnings will also be displayed where necessary should any of my content veer in to distressing territory.
